Most couples don't think to ask where their wedding flowers come from. But the answer makes a bigger difference than you might expect — in freshness, quality, and the story behind every bloom.
When you order flowers from most florists, those blooms have traveled. They were likely cut in South America or the Netherlands, packed into cooled shipping containers, cleared through customs, redistributed through a national wholesaler, and then driven to your florist — all over the course of four to seven days. By the time they're arranged, they've already lived a significant portion of their vase life in transit.
We do things differently at Falling Run Flowers & Design. And while we're proud of our farm, this isn't just a marketing point — it genuinely changes the quality of what ends up in your hands on your wedding day.
Freshness You Can See (and Smell)
Our most popular farm-grown varieties — ranunculus, anemones, dahlias, zinnias, sweet peas, and lisianthus — are cut and processed within days of your event, not weeks. This means fuller petals, more vibrant color, and flowers that continue to open beautifully throughout your entire celebration rather than beginning to decline by the afternoon.
There's also the fragrance difference. Commercially grown roses, selected for durability over scent, have largely lost the perfume that made them beloved in the first place. Our heritage and garden varieties still smell the way flowers are supposed to.
Pesticide-Free Growing
Our three-acre farm is 100% pesticide and herbicide-free. This matters for a few reasons — for the environment and soil health, obviously, but also practically for your event. Guests with sensitivities aren't affected, and you're not holding commercially treated blooms against your skin for hours on the most photographed day of your life.
The Margin Reality
Here's something we're transparent about: farm-grown flowers carry roughly a 25% higher margin than comparable wholesale sourcing. But that margin goes directly into the quality and care of what you receive — not into the overhead of a wire service or national distribution chain. We reinvest it into our farm, our team, and our continuing education.
When We Do Use Wholesale
We won't pretend our farm grows everything. Out-of-season specialties, certain Holland varieties, and winter blooms all come from trusted wholesale partners and direct farm relationships. The key difference is that we use wholesale selectively — to complement our farm harvest, not to replace it. And we're always honest about what's coming from where.
The Bottom Line
You deserve to know where your flowers come from. At Falling Run Flowers & Design, "farm to arrangement" isn't a tagline — it's the literal process. We'd love to show you the farm on your consultation visit and let the blooms speak for themselves.
